TIFFIN, OH – Project Peace, a ministry of the Sisters of St. Francis, Tiffin, is pleased to invite all to attend the 1st annual Tiffin Peace Fair and an Evening of Peace.
The fair will include a parade, children’s games and activities, food, displays, booths, including crafts and Fair Trade products, music, origami peace cranes, clay pieces and an exhibit of 20 international murals from the Art Miles Mural Project. Children from 8 years old and up will be participating in Bicycles for Peace, featuring their decorated bicycles. The fair will be held at Frost Parkway in Tiffin from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, June 23.
After the Peace Fair, a gathering will convene at 7 p.m. in St. Francis Chapel on the St. Francis Community campus in Tiffin for An Evening of Peace. Joanne Tawfilis, UNESCO Commissioner, will speak about the Art Miles Mural Project and Cecilia King, Peace Troubadour and a world performer in tours through Japan, New Zealand, Europe, and at the United Nations, will sing original songs of peace.
Tawfilis and her husband, Fouad, founded the Art Miles Mural Project and Art Miles Shoes of Hope, through which they mobilized more than 500,000 people from more than 125 counties to pain more than 4,000 murals, which were highlighted in an exhibition at the Culture Wheel in Cairo, Egypt, with live webcasting to more than 200 million people throughout the world in collaborating with the Unity Foundation and Peace Day TV. She was recently the keynote speaker at the United Nations Youth Forum and 2nd World Conference on Arts Education in Seoul, Korea. She is also the former director of the Women of Srebrenica Project in the former Yugoslavia under the Clinton administration and has been recognized with numerous awards for her peace work.
During the evening program, Cecilia St. King will perform original songs, which have a spiritual edge. St. King has relied on her music to help fight through personal tragedy and to help heal the emotional and spiritual wounds from the fall of the World Trade Center. Her songs are a powerful antidote to turmoil in current times.
“Attendees are sure to leave the Peace Fair and evening program feeling peaceful, refreshed and renewed,” says Sister Paulette Schroeder, the director of Project Peace. “We want people to come away from the day with a renewed commitment to working for and living in peace.”
The Tiffin Peace Fair will be Saturday, June 23, from 1-4 p.m. at Frost Parkway in Tiffin. The evening portion of the program will start at 7 p.m. in the St. Francis Convent chapel, 200 St. Francis Ave., Tiffin. Both are free and open to the public.
