Catholic sisters will “trolley” around the Minneapolis-St. Paul area on March 12, making stops at churches, community centers and universities as they share conversation and song and collect donations for a local overnight, emergency shelter.

“Our tour is a celebration of Catholic sisters, as well as a creative way to increase the visibility of Catholic sisters in the community,” said Sister Mary Kay Brooks, SSND, one of the organizers of the event. “We will have 30 sisters from several congregations riding the trolley and providing sing-along entertainment.”

The School Sisters of Notre Dame will be joined on the trolley tour by the Visitation Sisters of Minnesota and the Sinsinawa Dominicans. The tour will begin with 10:30 a.m. Mass and a blessing at Lumen Christi Catholic Community in St. Paul. From Lumen Christi, they will board the trolley, which will make stops throughout Minneapolis and St. Paul, including:

  • 12:15 p.m. – Ascension Church, Minneapolis
  • 1:15 p.m. – Assumption Church, St. Paul
  • 1:45 p.m. – Our Lady of Guadalupe, St. Paul
  • 2:30 p.m. – Mickey’s Diner, St. Paul
  • 3 p.m. – Dorothy Day Center, St. Catherine’s University and St. Thomas University, St. Paul
  • 4:30 p.m. – Basilica of St. Mary, Minneapolis

At each stop, they also will collect personal hygiene donations for the Dorothy Day Center, an overnight, emergency shelter for men and women, operated by Catholic Charities of St. Paul and Minneapolis.

“We are excited about this opportunity for the sisters in Minnesota to come together and connect with the community,” Sister Mary Kay said. “We look forward to sharing our stories, sharing information about our ministries and inspiring others to be about the work of God.”

The School Sisters of Notre Dame Vocation Team members, who organized the trolley tour, received a grant from National Catholic Sisters Week, which is funded by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, to create this special event during Catholic Sisters Week, March 8-14.
