What is Cycling with Sisters?

Cycling with Sisters is a social justice, cycling and social media pilgrimage that will take place on Monday, October 2, 2017, when our group will embark on a 100-mile ride from Erie, Pennsylvania, to Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada.

Why are we doing this?

At various stops, we will offer prayers and educate the public via social media (Facebook Live, Twitter) about the work that Catholic sisters are doing to address current social justice issues. Download prayer booklet (PDF)

Who are we?

We are a small group of individuals who enjoy cycling and who are committed to advancing the mission and image of Catholic sisters. Our group includes Catholic sisters, communications professionals who work for congregations of Catholic sisters and who belong to the organization Communicators for Women Religious (CWR), along with friends and others who support our cause.

What is CWR?

Communicators for Women Religious (CWR) is a professional organization of personnel responsible for communications within religious congregations of women. The organization’s mission is to be a network of professional support and education for members who promote understanding of women religious, enhance their image and advance their mission. CWR is also a resource for organizations serving women religious.

Why Niagara Falls, Canada?

We’re riding to Niagara Falls, Canada to attend the annual Communicators for Women Religious (CWR) conference which, for the first time, is being held outside the United States reflecting the international growth of the organization and the emergence of a global sisterhood. As for why we are riding our bikes—well, that idea started as a half-serious challenge from a CWR staff member who suggested that a member (and cyclist) from Erie, Pennsylvania, should ride her bike to the Niagara Falls conference! From there, the idea grew and another member (a sister) from Erie soon joined the effort, and others have come on board along the way.
