Dear CWR Members,

The vision for CWR’s Strategic Plan 2016-2019 is to become the go-to organization for communications about women religious by 2019. This is a bold aspiration, and one not easily measured. One way in which we might gauge our progress is to consider how others see and interact with our association.

A triennial gathering of Sisters will take place May 6–10, 2019, hosted by the International Union of Superiors General (UISG). The theme for this global gathering of leaders is Sowers of Prophetic Hope. The gathering will focus on themes of future of religious life, interculturality, care for the earth, and dialogue amongst others. For the first time, a number of guests and strategic partners have been invited to join this assembly and CWR is among that select group.

What this means for CWR: The ministry of communication is becoming increasingly recognized as a crucial part of the mission for congregations around the world. As more congregations take a deep look at their communication operations, they will seek out direction, guidance, and best practices for their communities. CWR is in a unique position to share our experience and expertise with sisters from around the globe as they seek new ways to communicate their charism.

CWR Executive Director Nick Schafer will represent CWR at this gathering and serve on the English language communication team for the event. Stay tuned to CWR’s social media channels for daily updates and reflections on the proceedings as they happen.

I’m sure we can all agree that there is a deep need in our world for improved communication and deep listening, which makes our work as communicators all the more critical. Please join me in sending prayers of support to all those gathered for the UISG Plenary Assembly, May 6-10, 2019.

Thank you,

Kathy Gatliff
