The CWR Board of Directors met via videoconference on Thursday, April 9. In the interest of keeping members informed, we present highlights from that meeting:

Joanne Gallagher, CSJ, led the opening prayer, Holding Tight by Tzvi Freeman.

CWR Board Chair Cecilia Rupell outlined plans for the May Board meeting. It was decided at the Board’s January meeting that the May meeting would be conducted remotely this year after being held in-person in prior years.

Interim Executive Director Kathy Gatliff noted that CWR staff will update reporting on CWR’s first Conrad N. Hilton Foundation grant period, which ended on March 31.

Conference 2020 Chair Rob Cogswell updated the board on planning for a pre-conference visit to the United States-Mexico border. The Board also examined potential affects of the COVID-19 crisis on this year’s conference and will continue to monitor the situation in future meetings.

Marketing Committee Chair Spalding Hurst detailed the CWR communicator awards program and the introduction of member awards in three categories: print; electronic media; and integrated media. Award recipients will be recognized at the annual CWR conference.

Maxine Kollasch, IHM, reported on changes to the Cycling with Sisters bike rides. The South Bend-Chicago ride (in September) is being redesigned due to COVID-19, and the Prince Edward Island has been delayed until later in 2020. The July rides in Clinton, Iowa, and Monroe, Michigan, have been cancelled for this year.

Tammy Townsend Denny reviewed member recruitment materials developed by the Membership Committee. 2020 CWR membership data was also presented to the Board.

Jennifer Brandlon updated the Board on the Education Committee’s collaboration with the Membership committee on weekly Flash Conversations focused on the COVID-19 crisis.

Development Committee Chair Jan Parrott discussed the start of the committee’s efforts to recruit development professionals for CWR membership and potential future grant applications.

Joanne Gallagher, CSJ, confirmed that it will not be necessary to recruit candidates for Board service for 2021 and noted that additions to the Nominating Committee likely will be needed in 2021.

The Board will next meet May 14 via videoconference.
